What Changed From the Previous Monitoring

Monitoring in Axoniq Platform was rebuilt from the ground up. If you used the previous version, your settings were carried over, but several things work differently. This page lists what changed and what you may want to check.

Rules instead of conditions

Rules are workspace-level

Previously, every environment had its own copy of the monitoring conditions. Now one alert rule covers all environments by default. Where your environments had different settings, the migrated rules are limited to the environments they came from.

Conditions are grouped into named rules

Single-metric conditions such as "aggregate lock time", "aggregate load time" and "aggregate error rate" are now conditions of one rule, Bad performing aggregate, each with its own severity. A rule fires when any of its conditions holds, and an alert escalates as more severe conditions start holding.

Customized thresholds were kept

Thresholds you had changed were carried over unchanged. A customized condition that did not fit a new default rule became a rule of its own, named after the old condition and starting with Legacy, for example Legacy processor ingest latency (> 100). You can rename, merge, or delete these rules.

Some default thresholds changed

The new default rules use different thresholds for some metrics, most visibly the handler error rate, Axon Server disk space and the connection limits. This only affects thresholds you had not customized.

Overrides are now exceptions

A condition you had set up for one specific handler, processor, or other subject is now an exception on the matching condition of the rule. If there was no matching condition, it became a separate rule filtered to that subject.

Severities

The levels Incident, Critical, Major, and Minor are now the severities Critical, Major, Minor, and Info:

  • Incident became Critical.

  • Info is new. It is used for heads-ups such as an access token that expires within 30 days, and for release notices.

Alerts and the inbox

Alerts are grouped

Instead of one alert per subject, the alerts of a rule in one environment are collected in one inbox item, with one notification per item. To get separate items again, for example per application, set Split inbox by on the rule.

New ways to handle alerts

You can snooze and archive inbox items, and alerts can wait a while before resolving (Resolve after) so a flapping subject does not notify you over and over.

Alert history was not migrated

Alerts that were active or resolved before the switch are not in the new inbox.

Integrations

Your integrations were carried over, with a few differences:

  • Integrations that received all levels now receive Critical, Major and Minor. Select Info as well to receive the new Info alerts.

  • Migrated integrations receive alerts only. To receive release notices, create a new integration; new integrations receive alerts and release notices.

  • The email to the workspace owner that was created automatically is replaced by the Workspace Admins Email.

  • If Slack stops posting, reconnect it from Monitoring > Integrations by running the /axoniq connect command again.

New things to watch

Besides Framework applications and Axon Server, you can now alert on workspace subjects: expiring access tokens, AI and message credits, and new product releases.
